Scottish whiskey is whiskey produced in Scotland, Great Britain. In these countries, the drink has the status of 'national' and the category of 'legislatively fixed geographically', protected by the legislative acts of Great Britain, the European Union, and the World Trade Organization. When and where the drink was first distilled is unknown. On June 1, 1494, the drink is mentioned in the register of the Scottish treasury. Scottish whiskey is produced as follows: barley is dried with hot air, then mixed with water, fermented and distilled. The resulting product is aged in oak barrels from other alcoholic beverages. The drink is divided into five categories: malt, grain, blended, malt blended, and grain blended whiskey.
