Rum is a strong alcoholic beverage, made by fermenting and distilling byproducts of sugar cane production, such as molasses and cane syrup.
It is believed that rum began to be produced in the 17th century on sugar cane plantations in the Caribbean. Molasses is a byproduct of sugar production. Slaves discovered that it ferments into an alcoholic beverage. As a result of subsequent distillation of this product, the first rum was obtained. Later, the drink spread beyond the Caribbean.
Strong rum is a drink stronger than the usual 40% (most often 75-80%).
Examples of famous brands: Stroh (strong spicy rum from Austria), Bacardi 151.
