Liquore Galliano L'Autentico, more widely known as Galliano, is a sweet herbal liqueur created in 1896 by Italian spirits and cognac producer Arturo Vaccari of Livorno, Tuscany, and named after Italian hero of the first Italo-Ethiopian War Giuseppe Galliano. Giuseppe Galliano became famous for the defense of the Mek’ele fort, holding back the attacks of a hundred-thousand army with a one and a half thousand garrison.
Galliano has a multitude of natural ingredients, including star anise, Mediterranean anise, juniper, musk, yarrow, lavender, peppermint, cinnamon, etc. Galliano uses vanillin for flavoring, and sugar and glucose syrup for sweetening. Caramel and tartrazine are used to achieve the bright yellow color of Galliano. Neutral spirits are infused with herbs, except for vanilla. The liquid is distilled, and then infused separately with extracted vanilla. At the final stage, distilled water, refined sugar, and pure neutral spirit are mixed with the base. Galliano is produced at a strength of 30 and 42.3%.
The following types of liqueurs can be highlighted: Galliano L Autentico - classic, original; Galliano Ristretto - in the aroma, reveals a truly Italian way of making coffee - ristretto; Galliano Balsamico - combines balsamic vinegar, ingredients of Galliano L Autentico and Galliano Ristretto.
