Put four sprigs of mint in a highball.
Crush it with a muddler.
Add a teaspoon of powdered sugar and two teaspoons of water.
Fill the glass with crushed ice.
Pour in bourbon and stir well with a bar spoon.
Garnish with a sprig of mint.
It is believed that the cocktail appeared in the southern United States in the mid-eighteenth century. Later, Senator Henry Clay from Kentucky brought the cocktail recipe to the Round Robin bar (Washington), which is located in the famous Willard hotel. Since 1938, it has been the traditional cocktail of the Kentucky Derby horse race.
