Bourbon is a type of whiskey produced in the USA. Bourbon originated in the late XVIII - early XIX century in the city of Paris (Bourbon County, Kentucky, USA). The origin of this drink is not reliably documented. The term “bourbon” to name whiskey has been traced back to the 1820s. According to one legend, the corn whiskey was invented by the Baptist Elijah Craig. The main difference between bourbon and European whiskey is that it's made from corn (at least 51%), not barley, and aged in special barrels made of oak and charred on the inside by a special technology. The production of bourbon using this technology is attributed to Elijah Craig. It is also believed that Craig was the first to notice that whiskey aged in a charred oak barrel acquires a unique aroma and taste. The majority of the whiskey produced in the USA is bourbon, and it's officially considered the national drink of the USA. The overwhelming majority of corn whiskey is produced in the state of Kentucky. Jim Beam is the best-selling bourbon brand worldwide.
