Orange bitter

  • Category: Liqueurs
  • Volume: 28%

Orange bitter is a cocktail flavor made from a spirit base of orange peels, cardamom, caraway, coriander, and burnt sugar. Orange bitter, which should not be confused with standard infusions like angostura, is currently experiencing a revival among cocktail enthusiasts. Unlike angostura, orange bitter has a lower strength - 28 degrees. For many years, this infusion was hard to find. As a result, some cocktail recipes that traditionally contained orange infusion may now not include this ingredient.

Fee Brothers of Rochester from New York have been producing orange bitter for many years, but distribution has been limited. Renowned mixologist Gary Regan created Regan's orange infusion in the 1990s. Regan's Orange bitter No. 6, which first appeared on the market in 2005, is poured into bottles and sold by Sazerac, whose CEO Mark Brown worked with Regan to create a contemporary version of this bitter drink. In Germany, the drink is manufactured by the Bitter Truth company, which has launched many brands, including Angostura Orange Bitters.
