The cocktail was invented in the 1930s at the Detroit Athletic Club. Its creator is considered to be Frank Fogarty, a famous comedian and vaudeville actor. After World War II, the cocktail was forgotten until it was accidentally found by Murray Stenson in an old bartender's handbook in 2004. Since then, the cocktail has regained its former popularity.
