The exact origin of the cocktail is unknown, but the prevailing opinion is that it was invented at the end of World War I either in London or in Paris. The Ritz Hotel in Paris insists that the cocktail was invented in the hotel bars. The first mention of the Side Car is found in 1922 in Robert Vermy's book 'Cocktails and How to Mix Them'. Later, the 'English school' sidecar recipe appeared, published in the Savoy hotel cocktail book (1930), in it two parts of cognac were mixed with one part of cointreau and one part of lemon juice.
