The cocktail was first prepared in Belgium in 1949. The author of this coffee cocktail is considered to be the Belgian bartender Gustave Tops. He prepared it at the Metropole Hotel in Brussels, presumably in honor of the U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg - Pearl Mesta. This alcoholic cocktail is the progenitor of all mixed drinks that include coffee.
